Belgium (1979)
Albert Willem, a contemporary figurative artist from Brussels, is renowned for his whimsical paintings characterized by a naive style infused with wit and humor. Despite lacking formal art training, he immersed himself in galleries, museums, and the art scenes on social media platforms. Although he showed talent for drawing in childhood, he set aside art from the ages of 12 to 36 due to university and family obligations. Approximately four years ago, he reignited his passion by creating a painting for his home decor, marking a turning point he amusingly refers to as a "midlife crisis."

Artistic Style
Over time, Willem has explored various mediums and techniques, ranging from nail polish to spray paint to textile art. Presently, he primarily utilizes acrylic paint with a high gloss varnish to achieve vibrant colors. While the majority of his works are on canvas, he also utilizes repurposed cardboard as a painting surface. His artistic process is rapid, often completing pieces within 48 hours at most.

About His Artwork
His paintings are straightforward, at times appearing unfinished, boldly showcasing his rudimentary technical skills while capturing the raw energy of a beginner unrestricted by artistic conventions. Depicting everyday life in a light-hearted yet ironic manner, his works frequently portray humorous moments, drawing inspiration from artists such as LS Lowry, James Ensor, and Breugel the Elder but infused with a contemporary twist. In January 2021, Willem embarked on a project to paint a 'never-ending conga line,' continuously adding more cardboard pieces adorned with dancing figures to extend its length. Why Glen Grant?

History
It was founded in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant, two former illicit distillers and smugglers who decided to obtain a license. With the sea and the port of Garmouth nearby, the river Spey at their feet, and barley growing plains nearby, all the basic ingredients for malt whisky were within reach. This time, the distillery was legal.

Glen Grant Distillery
Stories abound about "The Major." A legendary innovator, socializer, and traveler, he lived by his own rules and set his own standards. New ideas fascinated him, and he was not afraid to explore them. He was the first Highlander to own a car. Glen Grant was the first distillery to have electric light. And he introduced the tall, slender stills and purifiers that created the fresh malt flavor and light color that define Glen Grant whisky to this day.
In 1931, Major Grant, the last of the Glengrants, died, survived by his three daughters and a distillery that had become one of the most famous in the world. Douglas Mackessack, his grandson, would become his successor.

Merger
In 1972, Glenlivet and Glen Grant Distilleries Ltd merged with the blending companies Hill, Thomson and Co. Ltd, and Longmorn Distilleries Ltd to become The Glenlivet Distillers Ltd. The original family interest in the distilleries remained, with two major external shareholders: Courage Ltd, the brewing company, and Suntory Ltd, the Japanese distilling company.
In 2006, Campari acquired Glen Grant, its only whisky, when Allied Domecq was acquired by Pernod Ricard. To this day, Glen Grant remains one of the best-selling single malt whiskies in the world.

Who is Adam Pendleton?

Pendleton was born in 1984, Richmond, Virginia. He studied art in Northern Italy. After art studies, he went to New York in 2002, at the age of 18, with the intention of becoming an artist.

Adam Pendleton’s multidisciplinary practice uses text, gesture, and appropriated imagery to reconsider social resistance, avant-garde art, and underrepresented historical movements. Across silkscreen paintings, photographic collage, video, performance, and publishing, Pendleton filters ideas and aesthetics from the Black Arts Movement, Minimalism, Conceptualism, and Dada through a graphic, monochromatic palette. The resulting pieces explore Blackness and race from myriad perspectives. Pendleton describes his work as “Black Dada,” a phrase originally coined by the poet Amiri Baraka. He has exhibited in New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Seoul, and Johannesburg. His work has sold for six figures at auction and belongs in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Long Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Tate.

About Untitled (Days for Drawing)
Adam Pendleton’s work is a reflection of how we increasingly move through and experience the world on a sensorial level—a form of abstraction that, in its painterly, psychic, and verbal expression, announces a new mode of visual composition for the twenty-first century. It investigates Blackness as a colour, an identity, a method, and a political subject—in short, as a multitude. His work also poses questions about the legacy of modernism in the present day, reactivating ideas from historic avant-gardes across mediums and moments in time. Since 2008 he has articulated much of his work through the frame of Black Dada, an evolving inquiry into the relationships between Blackness, abstraction, and the avant-garde. It’s a visual philosophy that confounds the distinctions between legibility and abstraction, past and present, familiar and strange, reminding us that meaning always develops through difference. In the scope of Adam's larger oeuvre as they signal a return to subtle traces of colour. His practice has otherwise been explicitly focused on shades and variations of black and white as of late. Also, as the title indicates, these drawings are a counterpoint to the Untitled (Days) paintings. With an analogous spirit of exploration, they use familiar forms (circles, semicircles, ovals) to build a geometry of attention that is repeatedly interrupted by painterly incident: brushstrokes, drips, splatters, sprays. Where these drawings diverge from paintings, however, is in their pictorial and temporal space. Their visual rhythm has the unmistakable quickness of drawing, driven by spontaneity and happenstance, while the method of their making produces a visual tension between foreground and background, with translucent marks laid down in a sequence that is often impossible to discern.
